How to turn an EPUB into an audiobook

A book you read at home can also accompany a walk. This guide follows the audiobook tools shown in the upcoming handyREADER 4.10 for Apple devices. Check your installed version for the available tools; Android features can differ.

01

Start with a book you can use

Open your own DRM-free EPUB from your files or library. Choose a book or text you have the right to convert. A short chapter is a useful first example: you can check the voice and pronunciation before committing to a long book.

02

Listen before choosing a voice

Open the audiobook creation tools and listen to voice samples. System voices run on the device without cloud voice credits. Medium and Expert AI voices use cloud processing and credits. Choose the language of the book and a voice that suits its style.

03

Select chapters and check the estimate

Select the chapters to convert and review the displayed credit estimate before starting a cloud conversion. For example, begin with the opening chapter, listen to the result and then decide whether to convert the rest. Keep your original EPUB in the library.

04

Make listening part of your routine

Open the resulting audiobook in the player. Adjust playback speed and use chapter navigation or the sleep timer. On supported Apple versions you can also transfer an audiobook to Apple Watch for offline listening with Bluetooth headphones; Watch access requires unlimited access or an individually unlocked book.

Common questions

Is the AI voice conversion free?

Cloud AI voices use credits. System voices do not use cloud voice credits. Reading, playback and other access options are shown in the app.

Will this remove DRM from a purchased book?

Use a DRM-free book that you have the right to convert. This workflow does not remove a publisher’s copy protection.
