coolAltitude
The Pilot’s Tool for Cold-Weather Safety

Cold-weather approach corrections, simplified.

coolAltitude is a professional support tool for IFR pilots, designed to assist with temperature corrections during cold-weather operations.

It supports ILS (CAT I), RNAV/GNSS, VOR and NDB approaches and integrates METAR, SNOWTAM and GRF/RCAM data into a single, clear workflow.

Built by pilots, for pilots — focused on accuracy, clarity and speed.

Why coolAltitude?

Cold-weather corrections are operationally critical — but calculating them should not slow you down.

coolAltitude is designed around one simple principle:

enter only what matters, get everything you need.

  • No unnecessary data entry.

  • No fragmented sources.

  • No guesswork.

Minimal inputs. Maximum output.

To calculate a complete, temperature-corrected approach profile, you only enter:
   •    Intermediate approach altitude
   •    Published minima
   •    Approach descent angle
   •    Runway elevation
   •    Threshold crossing height (TCH)
   •    Actual airport temperature (°C / °F)

If required, you can also add:
   •    MSA and go-around altitudes
   •    DME shift (for threshold / TDZ / displaced DME references)
   •    SNOWTAM and GRF/RCAM information

That’s it.

Clear, operationally usable results

Based on your inputs, coolAltitude provides:
   •    Temperature-corrected altitudes for all entered values
   •    Corrected altitudes along the entire approach profile at relevant DME distances
   •    Corrected flight path angle (FPA) for FPA-enabled aircraft
   •    Pressure altitude of the airport (hPa)
   •    Vertical speed tables (corrected and uncorrected) for various ground speeds
   •    QFE ↔ QNH conversion tables, including temperature corrections
   •    Fully decoded SNOWTAM with braking action information (ICAO & CIS scales)
   •    RCAM (Runway Condition Assessment Matrix) based on ICAO GRF

All presented graphically and consistently, using strict color-coding for immediate interpretation.

More than an update — a major step forward

The current version of coolAltitude represents a major upgrade, expanding the app from a temperature-correction calculator into a comprehensive cold-weather operations support tool.

New capabilities include:

  • saved and shared approach presets

  • integrated METAR interaction

  • full de-/anti-icing support with FAA HOT tables

  • integrated HOT timer and operational references

The workflow has been refined to reduce workload while increasing situational awareness.

Operational use

coolAltitude is an advisory tool.

It is not certified for operational use and does not replace approved documentation.

If used in real-world flight operations, it must be approved and operated as part of the operator’s Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) in accordance with applicable regulations.

coolAltitude doesn’t replace your procedures — it helps you apply them correctly, even on the coldest days.
